Rome Under Water

Another great European capital sits under the waters of its river today as the Tiber has overflown its banks flooding Rome. Weeks of bad weather have contributed to the river's rise. Debris is caught underneath the city's bridges. The stone embankments which date from the 19th century are no longer enough to hold back the water.

Just as the city of Paris in 1910, an ancient city has to cope with the ancient challenges of nature.
